What InvoiceDesk is
InvoiceDesk is a set of free online tools that help you create invoices and the paperwork around them: quotes, receipts, purchase orders, pro-forma invoices, credit notes and timesheets, plus calculators for tax, rates, margins and due dates. It also publishes plain-English guides on invoicing rules in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
Who runs InvoiceDesk
InvoiceDesk is an independent site created and run by Rashid Mehmood. Rashid was born in Pakistan and lives in Saudi Arabia, and builds web tools for freelancers and small businesses that invoice clients in other countries. He designs the tools, writes and reviews the guides, and answers every email personally. InvoiceDesk is not affiliated with any tax authority, accounting software company or government.
Rashid is not an accountant or lawyer, which is exactly why the guides are built on primary sources: every rule is linked to the tax authority or legislation it comes from (HMRC, IRS, CRA, ATO, Inland Revenue NZ, the European Commission and national tax agencies), each page shows when it was last reviewed, and anything likely to change is flagged so you can check it. Read more in the editorial policy.
Why we built it
Most small businesses do not need accounting software on day one. They need a clean invoice that shows the right details, a PDF to email, and an answer to a question like “do I charge VAT on this?”. Many free generators bury the tool under sign-up walls, watermarks and thin content. We wanted tools that are quick, accurate, honest about what they cannot do, and good looking enough that you are happy to send the result to a client.
How it works
- Everything runs in your browser. There is no server that receives your invoices. Your drafts, saved business profiles and clients are kept in your browser’s local storage on your device. See the privacy policy.
- Country editions. Currency, tax labels, date formats and a short compliance checklist change with the country. Official sources are linked.
- 15 layouts, 15 colours, 9 font pairings. The same layouts are used for every document type, so quotes and invoices match.
- Export your way. PDF, print or PNG, on A4 or US Letter.
What InvoiceDesk is not
- It is not accounting software. It does not track payments, bank feeds or tax returns.
- It is not a legal, tax or accounting adviser. See the disclaimer.
- It does not create structured e-invoices (Peppol, Factur-X, XRechnung, KSeF, SDI). Where those are mandatory you will need an approved provider. See e-invoicing in Europe.
- It must not be used to create documents for transactions that did not happen. The receipt generator, for example, is for real payments only.
How we keep content accurate
Our editorial policy explains how we research, source and correct guides and tool pages. In short: we link official sources, show a review date, avoid invented statistics, and tell you when a detail needs checking with your tax authority.
How the site is paid for
InvoiceDesk is free to use. It is funded by advertising (Google AdSense). Ads are clearly marked, never appear inside the documents you create, and in the UK and EU we ask for consent before personalised ads are used. See the privacy policy and cookie policy. Advertising will not influence what the tools or guides say.
